One of the University of Florida’s most spirited traditions is the annual Homecoming, including Gator Growl. Since 1916, we have not only continued but amplified these ongoing traditions. Homecoming season is packed with fun-filled activities to celebrate the legacy of our school and to welcome back our exceptional staff, student body, and longtime Gators and new.
To kick off the week, the Chomp for Charity 5K is organized to support this year’s choice of the Child Advocacy Center. This year the race was held on Sept. 27 at Depot Park. Chomp for Charity is the newest addition to Homecoming week and has been a great stride to grow our participation with philanthropic organizations.
Next on the Homecoming schedule is the Leadership Pageant, held on Oct. 9 in the University Auditorium. The pageant is held to recognize and celebrate some of UF’s top student leaders, granting eight students a spot on the 2025 Homecoming Court and selecting two to be King and Queen at the Homecoming football game.
On Oct. 10, Soulfest continues to carry out Gator spirit and community by celebrating our multicultural environment where all students showcase their heritage, and we learn from the many voices that make UF unique through the annual talent show. This event showcases talent through different performances of dance, song and more, fostering learning about others throughout all the participants’ performances.

Shortly after these events, put together by UF’s student organizations, is the Homecoming parade followed by the Campus Festival. The Homecoming parade is the largest student-run parade in the nation, exemplifying our student body’s hard work and pride in our university. The Campus Festival, happening not long after the parade, is a UF Homecoming tradition joining students, staff, alumni and the Gainesville community.
Last but not least, you don’t want to miss Gator Growl. This is the event of all events for our Homecoming festivities, highlighting our true sense of community and spirit for the University of Florida. Steve Aoki will headline the 2025 Gator Growl at the O’Dome on Oct. 17, bringing together every amazing aspect of our school. The student-run pep rally has been a tradition for more than a century. The 102nd UF Homecoming and Gator Growl will definitely be one for the books.
Traditions are intended to continue for years to come and instill a sense of long-lasting community and pride among our student body and beyond. Homecoming serves as a time to celebrate shared experiences, reconnect with old friends and strengthen bonds within the school. Through the meticulous planning of all who help put these traditions together year after year, we create a kind of connection that extends beyond graduation, forever linking you to the legacy we call Gator Nation.
