The students of the University of Florida were absolutely ecstatic about the Gators men's basketball team playing in the NCAA National Championship. The excitement was so intense that many took it upon themselves to camp outside some of the hottest watch spots. These included the Swamp Restaurant, the O'Connell Center and Midtown. The atmosphere in the Swamp specifically was filled with so much anticipation as everyone rallied together to cheer on the team in the single most important game of the season.

Cullen Sloan, a first-year student at UF who camped outside the Swamp, had no regrets about his decision to spend an entire day dedicated to Florida basketball.

“Camping out was definitely worth it,” Sloan said. “The atmosphere at the Swamp was unmatched and made the win feel even better.”

The O'Connell Center hosted a watch party as well in honor of the national championship. It filled up with 11,355 people for the big game. When students finally made it inside the O'Connell Center to cheer on the Gators in their home arena, they got to celebrate as they watched the thrilling victory.

Taylor Friend is a third-year student at UF and another student who waited to watch the national championship. Despite it being a Monday, she was more than happy with her decision to watch the entirety of a late game with her boyfriend, Aaron Powell.

“Being in the O’Connell Center with 12,000 other Gator fans, all cheering and booing with you, was unreal,” Friend said. “I will never forget the energy in the O’Dome when we realized we had won.”

“The O’Dome was the most electric atmosphere I've ever been in, and an unforgettable moment,” Powell said.

In an incredible season that was defined by resilience and dramatic comebacks, for the third time in history, the Florida men's basketball team won the national title. This was the first time they'd take the title home in 18 years. The Gators overcame multiple deficits throughout the tournament, culminating in a very thrilling but exciting 65-63 victory over the Houston Cougars.

When the final buzzer sounded at the end of the second half, the students were filled with so much joy. They flooded the streets of Gainesville to celebrate the incredible championship victory. The energy was exhilarating as the students cheered, waved flags and took over the town, showing their pride for the Gators’ unforgettable win.

After the big win, the UF has reestablished itself as a powerhouse in college basketball. The Gators’ 2025 championship run stands as a true testament to their teamwork and determination, marking a new era of success for the Florida Gators men's basketball team.
